OUR STORY
Before there was a company, there were two distinct paths — one rooted in science, the other in logistics and finance.

Years later, these two perspectives would converge in Québec, Canada where Elena Haideţ, PhD and Nicolae Niţu, MBA, partners in life as well as in the undertaking that would follow, founded Joana Biomedical.

Founded in 1999 as a clinical medical laboratory, the company worked closely with physicians and remained
deeply connected to the realities of clinical practice.

The clinical laboratory, established under the name Joana Biomedical, became a point of close contact with the people it serviced.
GROWING TOGETHER
The trust and support of our patients, partners and community helped Joana Biomédical grow into Groupe E.N. Biomédical, guiding our work and encouraging us to build on what we had begun. Along the way, awards for business management, innovation and entrepreneurship marked important milestones in the company’s development, honouring the care and dedication behind its growth
As the company grew, so did the range of needs and questions brought forward by patients, physicians and scientific collaborators. Conversations increasingly extended beyond laboratory testing alone, raising questions about prevention, individualized approaches to health and new ways of responding to needs encountered in practice. These inquiries gradually broadened the company’s field of activity and opened the door to new areas of development.
Natural health products became one expression of that evolution, alongside a growing involvement in scientific research and biomedical innovation.
THE NATURAL PRODUCTS
E.N. stands for Éléments Naturels — Natural Elements in French — carrying an echo of chemistry itself: the elements, compounds, and compositions at the heart of formulation. Biomedical preserves the company’s connection to the clinical laboratory from which this work emerged.
Triomphe, the first formulation developed by E.N. Biomedical, began with a need encountered through clinical practice. An endocrinologist working closely with the laboratory was caring for women at different stages of menopause, many of whom were seeking natural options to support their wellbeing.
Their questions became the starting point for the development of the line.
Because these conversations began in a clinical environment, formulation was considered within the broader context of health and medical care. When ordered by their physician as part of their medical care, laboratory testing could form part of a patient’s broader clinical follow-up.
That distinction continues to inform E.N. Biomedical’s approach today. Across Our Formulations, the composition and purpose of each product are presented together with educational information about laboratory testing that individuals may wish to discuss with their healthcare professional as part of their broader health care.
MEDICAL DEVICE DEVELOPMENT
As new fields of research and development emerged, the name Groupe E.N. Biomédical came to reflect the broader scope of the company’s scientific work.
Its work in medical-device development grew from another need encountered through clinical practice: finding ways to obtain meaningful biological information more rapidly when time can influence clinical decisions.
Still under development, the project is centered on a biosensor platform designed for the detection and measurement of molecules in liquid samples, with the longer-term ambition of bringing advanced analytical capabilities closer to the point of care.
AllergySensor represents one application being developed around allergies and anaphylactic reactions, where existing analytical methods can be complex and time-consuming.
Developed through scientific research and multidisciplinary collaboration, the project reflects Groupe E.N. Biomédical’s broader commitment to exploring biomedical solutions in response to needs identified in clinical practice.
GROUPE E.N. BIOMÉDICAL
Today, Groupe E.N. Biomédical carries forward more than twenty-seven years of experience shaped by science, entrepreneurship and an attentiveness to the questions encountered along the way.
From its beginnings in clinical biochemistry to natural health products, biomedical research and medical-device development, each evolution has grown from what came before — expanding the company’s perspective without losing sight of its origins.
Women have played a defining role in that story from its scientific beginnings, and continue to shape its direction as a new generation steps forward. With that transition comes both continuity and renewal: the knowledge, values and determination that built the company remain, while new perspectives create space for what it may yet become.
The next chapter of Groupe E.N. Biomédical is an extension of its history — a continuity shaped by science, nature and innovation, and guided by a more informed and preventive approach to health.
What began as Elena’s conviction that scientific knowledge could help people understand their health earlier continues to evolve today: listening closely, questioning what is possible, and building thoughtfully from what we learn.

Elena has built a distinguished career spanning chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmacology. Recognized by both the scientific and business communities through numerous awards and nominations, her work encompasses natural health product formulation, biomedical research, and the development of laboratory tests and diagnostic methods with clinical applications.
Today, she remains a valued source of scientific insight for the Group. Drawing on decades of knowledge and experience, she offers perspective on ongoing research, supports the scientific team, and helps carry forward the rigour and curiosity that have shaped E.N. Biomédical since its beginnings.
CO-FOUNDER
Nicolae’s extensive background in public finance includes financial management and administrative leadership roles, alongside thirty years of military service in the Romanian and Canadian armed forces. In 1999, he turned his focus to business development, co-founding Joana Biomédical Ltd.
Today, he remains a trusted resource for the Group’s Management team, sharing the knowledge and perspective gained over decades of experience. His continued guidance supports thoughtful financial stewardship and carries forward the discipline and long-term vision that have shaped his contribution to the company.
